Derry Girls is one of Northern Ireland’s most popular shows being a hit not just over here, but also internationally. It’s so beloved even iconic director Martin Scorsese is a fan.
While speaking at the Economic Club of Chicago’s annual black-tie dinner, the American director was asked what he was currently watching, saying: “I watched, the other night, Derry Girls.”
When the crowd erupted into applause, he said: “Those nuns…!”
Shows creator Lisa McGee was thrilled to find out Martin was watching the show. Writing on Twitter: “Excuse me while I drop dead and actually die a death”
Comedian Dara Ó Briain had perfect response, replying: “And that’s it, you win. Shut it down, people, we have a winner.”
Siobhan McSweeney, who played Sister Michael on the show, joked: “Good morning. I’m ded.”
Nicola Coughlan, who played Clare on the show, took to Instagram to share her delight, writing: “Cast Me Marty”
While Saoirse Monica Jackson, who stars as Erin, re-shared the video with heart emojis.
Meanwhile fans of both Martin and Derry Girls were thrilled with the shout out.
