Laura Whitmore announced her exit from Love Island last month, and since then has been opening up about the realities of working on the show.

Now the Wicklow woman is setting the record straight, regarding some of the criticisms she faced as host. Including one particular aspect of the show, which some viewers took issue with.

While entering the villa, there would be a slow-motion scene of the person walking through the heart-shaped arches to the front door. And it seems some fans believed Laura was actually walking very slowly while on camera.

“I got a complaint because I’m so selfish, I make the whole show about me because I walk so slow,” the presenter told The Independent.

“Someone actually wrote in! I walk normal pace. They slow it down!”

Laura also opened up about how tough the trolling, she received while working on Love Island was.

Explaining how she hadn’t experienced anything like it before, while working on other projects in the past, like her presenting job on MTV.

She said: “When I first started doing MTV, if someone had an issue with you, you didn’t really know about it, you’d just carry on and do your job.”

Announcing her departure from the series last month, Laura wrote on Instagram: “Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love Island.”

“There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects.”

“I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series.”

She concluded: “I hope I did you proud Caroline.”
