Kodaline have paid tribute to a fan who tragically lost her life after taking ill at their concert on Friday.

The 17-year-old from Kilkenny passed out during the gig and was taken to Tallaght Hospital, where she was pronounced dead hours later.

The band’s promoters, MCD passed on their condolences to the girl’s family and friends on behalf of Kodaline and themselves.

A spokesperson for MCD said, “Kodaline and MCD’s immediate thoughts are with the family, relatives and friends of the deceased at their very sad loss.”

The band have also take to Facebook to share their sympathy.

Kodaline said, “We are so saddened to say that during our concert at Marlay Park, a 17 year old girl with a pre-existing medical condition suddenly became ill.

“The expert on-site medical team (including doctors and paramedics) immediately treated the girl who was transferred directly to hospital by an on-site Ambulance.

“We were shocked and devastated to be informed yesterday that despite the best efforts of all medical teams, she passed away in hospital.

“Our immediate thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased and we wish to extend our condolences on behalf of us and all of our crew!”

The teen was apparently dancing the night away with pals at the gig and suddenly passed out.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Sun that she was initially treated by medical staff on site but was transferred to Tallaght Hospital shortly after, where she was pronounced dead just hours later.

The Garda spokesperson said, “She was treated at the medical centre on site before being transferred to Tallaght Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short while later.

“A Garda report will be prepared for the coroner and an autopsy will be carried out to determine the direction of a Garda investigation.”

Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this hard time.
