Kellie Harrington made history as the first Irish boxer to defend their Olympic title and the first female Irish athlete to win two gold Olympic medals at back to back games.

After being crowned victorious the match she confirmed that she would be retiring on a high.

Now after returning home to Ireland, she reflected on her time at the Olympics.

She got creative by writing a beautiful poem.

“Oh my life is changing everyday
In every possible way
And oh, my dreams
It’s never quite as it seems
Never quite as it seems
I know I felt like this before
But now I’m feeling it even more”

She went on to say: “I can not put words on how I am feeling right now. 2 times Olympic Champion. When I say it out loud I just smile.

“Thank you to everyone for all your support, from the time I laced up the gloves untill the last round in Paris. So many people have helped me to get here, without help from so many people it would not be possible. Thank you to everyone for believing and cheering me on over these years. I hope you all enjoyed the journey.”

She concluded: “Much Love to you all.”

What an incredible sportsperson! We’re so proud of you Kellie!
