Keira Dignam has spoken out about the heartache she feels when watching her dad Christy perform now. The Aslan frontman is currently battling two forms of cancer, multiple myeloma and amyloidosis, and they are terminal.
Christy refuses to give up performing until he is physically no longer able, despite the toll it’s starting to take on his family.
Speaking to the Irish Daily Mail Kiera said, “We are dying watching him dying. This is what he wants to do but we are trying to do the things the doctors ask us to do. Sometimes there is no talking to him.”
Christy previously told VIP Magazine that he understands there are risks associated with gigging, but it is something that is still very important to him, and it helps to keep him in good spirits.
“We are picking and choosing our gigs, because I want to stay close to the hospital. But every gig we book, we tell them that there’s a chance that it may not happen. But it would have to be severe for me not to turn up. I’ve only ever cancelled one gig.
“But when I was sick for the first two years, I didn’t do anything, and it was a nightmare. I need to gig or else all the demons start building back up. It’s important to get out of the house and change your mindset,” he said.
