Katja Mia is ready to tie the knot.
Her partner Daragh Curran last year and now they’re in full wedding planning mode.
Well…kind of…
Speaking to VIP Magazine at the Virgin Media autumn launch, she admits that first they have to head off to Burundi for a traditional engagement.

“We’re essentially planning like two massive ceremonies, because next week I am flying to Burundi because I have a traditional engagement. Obviously my whole background is Burundi, and when someone gets married, they have to be officially introduced to my clan of 300.
“Daragh has never been to that side of the world. So it’s going to be tribal, traditional, amazing. That’s kind of been the main thing we’ve been planning so far. That will be done in September, and we have an amazing wedding planner for next year, we’re getting married abroad!”
How exciting.
She goes on to say that wedding dress shopping hasn’t started yet. But she has gotten so much help from her followers on social media.

“I definitely do want to start. But it’s weird with me, I’ve always kind of gone through my whole thing with Body Dysmorphia, and just wanting to feel like you’re the right size or the perfect size before you start all that stuff. I’m sure countless of women go through the same thing, because a lot of people reach out to me on that. But it’s something that I’m going to try to embrace and try to enjoy.”
She admits that she won’t be starting to look at that until October.
While they’re getting married abroad, she jokes about combining Irish and Burundi culture at their wedding day.

“Burundi has a really famous beer culture in Africa. My dad used to work for Heineken Brewery,” she explains.
“So Daragh is going to be vlogging and documenting the brewing industry in Burundi. And I’m sure he’ll bring Guinness to the Burundi people too! My first memory of drinking a beer was with my grandmother in Burundi aged seven. She mixed half of a Fanta Lemon with it! My kind of woman! He is going to be embraced with open arms.”
