The search has been on for Ryan Tubridy’s replacement for his Radio 1 slot.
Over the last few months, there has been a series of hosts including Maura Derrane and Oliver Callan.
However, there has yet to be a confirmed full-time replacement.
Now Kathryn Thomas has revealed that she would love the chance to get behind the mic.
When asked by the Irish Independent would she be willing to take over the slot, she replied: “I have definitely put my hat in the ring.”
She continued: “There are big changes being made in RTÉ 1. It’s a big decision and they’re looking at — not just the presenter in that role, they’re looking at the schedule.
“So in terms of how that’s all working and how that has gone, I don’t know. But if you’re asking me have I put my name in the ring, then, yes.”
Of course, she is aware of the big shoes that she would be filling. But Kathryn is more than capable of doing that.
“Anybody who gets the privilege of putting their own stamp on the slot has to go in there with confidence,” she explained.
She went on to say that she is aware there’ll be “noise” around the role but the “right person” will have what it takes to “drown it out”.
Well watch this space!
