Kathleen Watkins has revealed that Gay Byrne is “doing well” as he undergoes treatment for prostate cancer.
In November of last year, the broadcasting legend told listeners of his Lyric FM show that doctors discovered cancer in his prostate that might have spread to his back.
“I shall not be with our listeners on this day next week.” he said. “Have to go to hospital this week, they think they may have discovered a bit of cancer in the prostate and they think it may have moved up into my back.”
The 82-year-old’s devoted other half has revealed that he is coping well as he receives treatment for the disease and thanked fans for their unwavering support as they go through this difficult period.
“Everything is on hold while we do our best to look after Gay,” she told the Sunday Independent.
“He is doing well. The treatment is ongoing. Do thank the many people all over the country who have been in touch.
“We got all the notes and letters and cards. We read all of them. Thank you. Thank you to all those kind people. It’s so much appreciated.”
We wish Gay a speedy recovery and good health for 2017.
