Jonathan Rhys Myers made a young boy’s life a little happier this week, by inviting him and his family to the set of Vikings.
Five-year-old Ben Farrell is suffering from a rare from of childhood cancer, known as Wilms tumour. He was diagnosed on Christmas eve last year and his family, from Finglas in Dublin, need to raise €260,000 for his treatment.
The Mission Impossible III star heard about Ben’s story and wanted to help in some way. He has urged the public to help raise funds for Ben to get the medical attention he needs in America.
In a video shared on social media, Jonathan says, “My friend Ben Farrell is not very well and he needs to go to America (for medical treatment). He’s an excellent boy, he’s a little superhero. So please give what you can, time and energy. Tell everyone you can. The message is very simple lets get it done for Batman Ben.”
After his plea, Jonathan hung out with Ben and his parents. A family member told VIP Magazine that the call from Jonathan was such a surprise to them all, but they were all so grateful.
“It’s not everyday someone like Jonathan Rhys Myers rings you to have breakfast. He got to go on the horses down on set, and his allegiance to Batman is losing out a bit to vikings now,” they said.
Ben’s Go Fund Me page has now raised over €88,000, and the Farrell family want to thank all the people who have helped so far. If you want more information you can visit Ben’s Facebook page, or donate on the Go Fund Me site.
