Joe Duffy has become the latest well-known Irish face to shut down speculation he’s taking over as host of the Late Late Show, upon its return in the Autumn.

Ryan Tubridy is hanging up his hosting shoes after 14 seasons this coming May.

The rumour mill is rife with his possible replacement, bookies are even taking bets.

Many of the rumoured new hosts have commented on their likelihood of taking the gig.

Joe Duffy is the latest to deny the rumours, even adding he never threw his hat in the ring in the first place.

He chatted to listeners live on Liveline revealing: “I ruled myself out of presenting the Late Late before I was even ruled in.”

Along with Joe, Angela Scanlon has also ruled herself out of being the first female host of the chat show.

She’s said she’s happy with her own show Angela Scanlon’s Ask Me Anything.

In an Instagram Q&A, she was asked if she was in the running.

She replied: “oh f**k no… if I did that on Friday night they’d throw me out.”

Ryan revealed after his decision to leave the show that he wanted to leave on a high.

He said: “You know when you’re at a party, and you’re really enjoying it — everyone’s having a good time, the music’s really good — I’m at that party still, but I’m reaching into my pocket for my phone and ordering a taxi.”

He continued on saying it had been difficult for his family: “It’s been a big part of my life, and my family’s life. When you’re the Late Late Show presenter, you belong to a lot of people. And that’s part of the joys of it when you’re the guy. But when you’re the family of the guy, it’s a bit trickier.”

“I think another 5-10 years of it would be punishment for them. I’m ready. I’m so comfortable with the decision, and yeah it wasn’t easy, but it feels really good. I’ve enjoyed it so much. What a job.”
