“It’ll be a great experience for me!” Dublin GAA star set to compete in DWTS 2019

Dancing With The Stars

Irish footballer Denis Bastick has been confirmed as the seventh celeb to take part in Dancing with the Stars.

While the show is set to return to our TV screens in January 2019, all of the contestants are all being released this week.

So far, Mairead Ronan, Eilish O’Carroll, Darren Kennedy, Holly Carpenter, Fred Cooke and Clelia Murphy have all been announced – with sports star Denis being added to that list.

Denis, who retired from GAA this time year, can’t wait to get out onto the dance floor and try something new.

Speaking of the exciting new project, he said, I really feel that this will be a great experience for me. It is completely different than anything I have ever done before.

“Since retiring from Dublin football I always wanted to try new things, I never imagined that this would be one of those things though!

“Football has given me a huge sense of accomplishment and DWTS is now presenting me with a massive challenge and the opportunity to accomplish something that is in such contrast to what I’m used to.

“I am slightly overwhelmed at the task in hand having seen what the dancers can do. They have amazing, athleticism, rhythm and coordination. I have probably one of those qualities so I will really need to put the work in!

It’s a year of big changes, as Jennifer Zamparelli is set to take over from Amanda Byram, hosting the show alongside Nicky Byrne.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Dancing with the Stars team,” Jen said.

“I was lucky enough to witness the live production first-hand last year when I sat in the audience supporting Bernard O’Shea and I was genuinely so impressed by the overall scale of the show.

“I can’t wait to get my glam on and start entertaining the nation on Sunday nights and who better to do it with than the fabulous Nicky Byrne.”

The show airs January 6th. Will you be tuning?
