Majella O’Donnell has opened up about never having children with husband Daniel.
Though she has two adult children from a previous marriage Majella admits she did initially want to have more with her country music star husband.
“I suppose I wanted it more so for Daniel. I’d had my kids, I wasn’t too bothered. I’d have loved to have given him a child,” she revealed.
“I was 42 so we didn’t do anything to prevent it but nothing ever happened. It was kind of like it wasn’t meant to be.”
She added that she now sees it as a positive thing that she never went on to have more children, and that Daniel makes a great granddad.
“Now, I am so grateful, I am really grateful that I haven’t got a baby or a 15-year-old.”
“We have two grandchildren and Daniel is absolutely fabulous with them.”
“I mean, he gets up in the middle of the night, changes the nappies, feeds them.”
The mum-of-two revealed that Daniel is also glad he didn’t have kids as he wouldn’t have been around due to his busy performance schedule.
“I said to him, ‘God, it’s a shame you didn’t have your own children, you would’ve been a great father’ — but he said, ‘No, I wouldn’t, because I wouldn’t have been here. I would have been away on tour.’” she told Brendan O’Connor on his new show Time Out, which airs on the 17th.
“The grandkids are like his, so it is perfect. He’s experiencing them from birth, sees them as much as he wants to and then he goes off on tour and Skypes every day.”
“It’s funny, what he thought was a problem . . . turned out to be a blessing in disguise.”
