Irish model Alannah Beirne has opened up about dealing with bullies while at school. The 22-year-old is set to star in the new season of Britain’s Next Top Model, and plans on beating the bullies by doing what she loves.
Kildare native Alannah was teased in school for having Auditory Processing Disorder, a hearing problem that affects the hearing of children and inhibits them from responding at an average speed.
Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Alannah admitted that appearing on the popular series and strutting her stuff in front of model pro Abbey Clancy will be her “look at me now” moment.
Although she doesn’t hold a grudge against her classmates, she can’t forget those awful feelings of insecurity.
“I have APD – Auditory Processing Disorder – so I was a bit slow to respond.
“I will expect those girls to get in contact and you know what, I’m the kind of person that it’s in the past and I forgive and I forget. What happened to me when I was younger happens to a lot of kids.
“Now I’m older I’m like, ‘I’m over it’ but at that time, when you are that age, getting bullied and feeling those horrible feelings – you literally feel worthless. So if those girls do get in contact, it will be a case of, ‘Look at me now.’
“I was very insecure. It was difficult but now I’ve grown up and matured and I don’t take any crap now grown from anyone,” she said.
