One of the world’s biggest music festival, Glastonbury, took place over the weekend.

If you weren’t able to get tickets, worry not, because BBC aired the festival live and you can watch the highlights back on Youtube.

This year was a milestone for Irish artists as an incredible 33 acts performed at Glastonbury.

Of course, not all of those acts were televised, but if you were able to get tickets then you were definitely in for a treat.

It’s safe to say that Kneecap were the act that had the biggest buzz around them.

They played the West Holt stage at 4pm on Saturday, their set was controversially not aired live like the rest of the performances on the stage that day. Instead, it was aired later on BBC iPlayer.

However, the stage which has an approximate capacity of 30,000 people was absolutely jammers that it had to be closed off 40 minutes before the West Belfast band came on stage.

They received high praise, and Helen from Wales went viral for livestreaming their gig for over an hour on TikTok. Over 1.7 million people tuned in on TikTok to watch.

CMAT, who performed on Friday, also won high praise for her turn on the Pyramid Stage.

Of course, the crowd were delighted to do the viral dance to Take a Sexy Picture of Me, from her forthcoming third studio album, Euro-Country.

“This is the scariest moment of my life, but it will probably singlehandedly be the best and most amazing thing I’ll ever do,” she gushed.

But she also used her time on stage to make a message, closing off her set by leading a “Free Palestine” chant.

Inhaler took to the Other Stage on Friday to a massive crowd, including Paul McCartney who watched from the side of the stage.

During their performance, frontman Eli Hewson cheered: “I’d like to dedicate this next song to the people of Palestine, to any innocent people being starved or bombed, or genocide for the sake of some lunatics.”

Rising rock band Gurriers gained praise from well-known Irish faces including Richard Chambers who shared on his Instagram Story: “The latest band to blow a crowd away. They were tipped by the BBC as ‘unmissable’ and one of the five picks to catch before they get too big.”

And we would have to agree!

Dan Hoff, the frontman of the band, yelled: “Free Palestine, unlike other bands we know where we stand politically.”

Elsewhere, during the festival legacy bands like The Script, The Coronas and Snow Patrol delighted fans over the weekend.
