A football jersey is one of those pieces that is technically made to be easy to wear, but wearable and stylish are two very different things. And if you don’t believe me, just picture most dads on holiday.
But styled properly, it can be very cute. The trick is to stop treating it like something you only wear to watch a match and start treating it like a proper outfit piece. Think less “five-a-side after work” and more sporty girl summer.

The easiest option is still a classic for a reason. A fitted jersey with long denim shorts is summery, casual and very low effort. You might think this would look a bit funny, and honestly, there is a risk.
The trick is to avoid going oversized on oversized, because a big jersey with long jorts can quickly look a bit like you are drowning in fabric.
By adding a fitted top underneath or choosing something more structured on bottom, you define the waist, show off your natural silhouette and suddenly it feels like a cute outfit instead of laundry day.
With white trousers

For the well-dressed girly who also wants to show her support, white trousers instantly make a jersey look more polished.
This one does depend on the jersey colours, but it works especially well with shirts that have a white base or white trim, because it gives the whole outfit a natural bridge.
Thankfully, most countries have a home and away kit, so there are plenty of options, from Argentina’s blue and white stripes to Germany’s white base and Croatia’s red and white checks. The simple jersey with a mini skirt combo is probably the cutest way to make it feel less sporty.
A skort is even better because if you do end up watching a game with friends or your partner and are suddenly called upon to actually kick a football, you can do it without flashing everyone in the general area.
Then depending on the vibe you can add wedges, ballet flats or chunky trainers to the fit.
With baggy jeans

For a sunny match day or beer garden situation, linen trousers are ideal.
They make the whole thing feel relaxed but still styled.

If your jersey is long enough, and you are a fan of the Ariana Grande 2018 never wear pants look this might be for you.
Add biker or denim shorts underneath because you are not that kind of ‘dangerous woman’, then go with cowboy boots, knee-high boots or chunky trainers.
This works best with super-oversized jerseys and is probably the easiest way to make a football shirt feel like a full look.
The main thing is to stop being scared of the jersey. They are loud by nature, so let them be loud. Pick one colour from the shirt and match it to your bag, shoes or accessories, keep everything else simple, and suddenly it looks like an outfit rather than someone’s match-day laundry.
And if anyone asks what team you support, just say “the one with the nicest kit” and keep walking.
