Greg O’Shea shot to fame when he appeared on Love Island back in 2019. He joined the series just 12 days before the final and went on to win the series.
While his relationship with Amber Gill didn’t last, he is glad that he went on the show.
In the March issue of VIP Magazine, he tells us: “I said no to Love Island three times. Initially, it was when they offered me a day-one contract.
“They asked me a few weeks later to go in but I said no again as I still had the Olympic qualifications so couldn’t do it and then after that, they brought me in for the last 12 days, and I ended up winning!”
He’s grateful for the opportunity admitting: “Love Island gave me opportunities though and without that stepping stone, there’s no way I’d be doing what I’m doing now; having a fitness app, presenting, having the platform I have.
“There’s a lot of other Islanders who don’t want to speak about Love Island. They shun it and pretend they didn’t go on the show, but don’t bite the hand that feeds you!”
He has also been very open about his decision to walk away from the usual Love Island route. He chose to return to Ireland and focus on his rugby career.
“I gave up that Love Island life, going to London and making hundreds of thousands of euro, being the ‘it’ couple. At the end of the day, I was in the winning couple which beat Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury – and now look how big they are?!
“Arguably, I could have been just as big, but I decided not to follow that route.”
