With the festive season right around the corner, we decided what better way to get in the Christmassy mood, than to host a reader event to get our guests party ready.

An array of lucky readers were treated to a night of preening and pampering, where they were shown top tips and tricks from master stylists at Davey Davey hair salon, and given make-up demos from LA College of Creative Arts.

For a hairstyle that will take you from day to night this holiday season, it’s all about the braids and up-styles: easily done, stylish and chic, plus will last for hours!

Claudia from Davey Davey told VIP Magazine, “I’m doing two dutch braids, both coming from the hairline right back, and we’ll nip them in. A dutch braid is pretty much the exact same as a French braid, but you wrap the hair the opposite direction so that the plait comes up on the outside.

“Always prep the hair first so that you’ve got a bit of grip and it’s not too soft. Sea salt spray is perfect or a dry texturising spray. Then we’re going to pull everything out and make it a little more edgy.

“It’ll definitely take you from day to night. You can have it a little bit sleeker in the day time. It can be very structured, but then in the evening when you’ve got your makeup a little bit more dramatic, you can pull it all out and make it that bit bigger. Having the hair up is definitely the go-to this year. A lot of braids. A lot of softness, fullness and texture. Nothing too structured or too set.”

When it comes to make-up, it’s all about soft golden tones this festive season, with a pop of colour on the lips to brighten the whole look up, and bring your face to life.

Paula from LA College of Creative Arts says, “What’s always going to come out, is a little bit of gold and a little bit of glitter. We’ve kept a soft gold on the eye with a pop of black liner. We then went in with a bit of brown liner as well on the inside so it’s still defined.

“We went with a coral for a nice pop of colour on the lips. It’s just hints of tones, so nothing over powering but it’s still very glitzy and glamourous. It’ll most definitely take you from day to night.”
