Gay Byrne has revealed he’ll be retuning to work this weekend following his recent heart attack.
The presenter is set to take over the air waves again on Lyric FM this Sunday, and joked that there’ll be a surge of listeners, with people tuning in to see if he dies on air.
The 81-year-old made light of his situation, saying, “There’ll be some people tuning in hoping I die on the spot. Oh, the excitement of it.
“I don’t see doing a radio show as particularly stressful but the transmitter valves at Lyric might not be able for all the new listeners.”
Gay also opened up about the attack itself, revealing that his daughter and emergency services were brilliant to him during the whole ordeal.
He admitted that he was in “a bit of pain going to bed” the night before the attack took place.
“Something suddenly came over me at 6am the next morning. Fortunately, I had my daughter and her husband staying with us, and they were up like a flash.
“Soon the fire brigade ambulance was with us. I can’t speak highly enough of those ambulance men. They were terrific,” he said.
We’re delighted to see he’s back to his usual self, and can’t wait to tune in this weekend!
