Hearts broke around Ireland as Michael Conlan was devastatingly defeated at the Olympics yesterday, but one young Irish lad attempted to lift the boxer’s spirits.
Five year old fan, Finn McManus, felt so sorry for the Belfast native after the controversial loss, that he offered Michael his school medal.
In a letter, which was shared by his aunt media, Finn said, “Hi Michael. My name is Finn McManus and i am five years olf. I saw your fight in Rio and you should have won because you are the best boxer in the world.
“I want you to have my school medal because you are a winner. I hope you like it, from Finn.”
Michael saw the post, and was touched by Finn’s kind words.
Taking to Twitter, the sports star said, “Very warming message from this young lad. If anyone knows who he is, could they please tell him I have a gift for him.”
We’re sure Finn will be over the moon!
