And now we have the first look of the film! How exciting!

Berlin Film Festival announced that Small Things Like These will premiere at the festival this year.

The film will premiere on February 15th, screening in Competition.

It was filmed in Ireland, which saw Cillian make the movie in New Ross in Wexford, last year.

Small Things Like These is based on a book of the same name written by Claire Keegan.

The novel is set during the weeks leading up to Christmas 1985 in New Ross, where we meet our main character, Bill Furlong, a coal merchant and family man who is preparing for his busiest season.

While delivering an order to the local convent one morning, Bill makes a discovery which forces him to confront both his past as well as a society that is controlled by the church.

Eileen Walsh, Michelle Fairley and Emily Watson also appear in the film, with Cillian playing Bill.

Announcing the premiere Berlinale’s Artistic Director Carlo Chatrian says: “‘With Small Things Like These’, Tim Mielants tells the story of a man of few words, with wide open eyes, as clear as the skies of Ireland. We are confident that this story that allies the kindness to be directed to the more fragile, and the willpower to stand up against injustice, will resonate with everyone. We are looking forward to launching this ‘quiet’ yet quite exceptional film at the start of Zeitgeist Irland 24, a year-long celebration of Irish culture in Germany.”
