Donal Skehan is in flying form when we meet with him and his family for this month’s cover shoot.
Donal, along with his wife Sofie and their two sons, seven-year-old Noah and five-year-old Oliver, are our November cover stars. They are truly the picture-perfect family.
He’s talking about turning 40 and his busy life, between cookery, two young boys, his books, his ranges in shops like Dunnes, as well as his new hobbies which include pottery and yoga.
“A new chapter is coming. I don’t know exactly what that chapter will look like, but I’m really excited about what’s next,” he promises us with a twinkle in his eye.
But first his new cookery show on RTÉ, Donal’s Real Time Recipes, which accompanies his 13th (yes, you read that right!) cookbook.
He laughs before telling us: “I met Louis Walsh in the airport the other day when I was on the way over to do This Morning on ITV, and he was like, there’s too much cookery on TV!”
We’re aghast, as is Donal!
“People’s appetite for cooking on TV is still massive. In this day and age, we need a balm, we need something to switch off to,” he assures us.
Like we said, Donal is a busy man but he’s realising that he needs to slow down…at least a bit!
“There’s a lot of stuff going on. I think this year’s lesson is to not have too many fingers in too many pies!” he promises us.
“Any time I ever complain about their energy, everybody turns around to me and says…I have no one to blame, except myself!” he laughs.
