Doireann Garrihy hung up her mic after five years with 2FM this week.

She confirmed her news earlier this month, before an emotional goodbye on Friday morning.

Now we know who will be replacing her alongside Donncha O’Callaghan and Carl Mullan.

Aifric O’Connell joins Carl Mullan and Donncha O’Callaghan from 6am for early offerings of music, chats, listener call-ins and comedy to kick-start the day.

Aifric been working in RTÉ 2FM full time since 2017, where she covered for the late Larry Gogan, and then subsequently took over Weekend Breakfast.

Aifric also worked as a researcher on The Dave Fanning Show. She moved to the evening slot in late 2021, and has been a regular contributor on various shows, most recently on Drive it with the 2 Johnnies.

But now she will be waking up the nation alongside the two lads.

We can’t wait to tune in on Monday morning to hear the new dynamic.

Of course, Aifric is no stranger to wrangling two lads after two years with The 2 Johnnies.

But those early mornings will be a bit of an adjustment.

Congratulations Aifric!
