Doireann Garrihy revealed she felt massive pressure to be at her fittest, healthiest self in the lead up to DWTS. She joined Jennifer Zamperelli as a host taking over from Nicky Byrne last season.
Doireann was joined by BodyByrne’s Siobhan Byrne, on her new podcast Doireann and Friends to chat about feeling your best.
Opening up, Doireann revealed she initially struggled with accepting where she was at when it came to healthy living. She noted that it was Siobhan who helped her realise to have a healthy lifestyle meant she needed a total mind set adjustment.
She said: “I think it’s a combination of a lot of things; coming from a family of girls; growing up at a time where Kate Moss was the thing we were looking at. That thinness, and that supermodel skinniness, for want of a better word.”

Doireann mentions returning to her sessions with Siobhan following the pandemic. She noted it took her the “guts of three months to finally grasp” the idea of completely changing her lifestyle.
Siobhan recalled a time when Keith Duffy made an interesting comment to her husband Paul.
She said: “He said to Paul, ‘You have to look good for one girl. I have to look good for loads of people.”

Doireann agreed wholeheartedly with the sentiment. She explained: “That’s the thing. We can skirt around it and say, “It doesn’t matter,” but, like, it does – self-esteem-wise; self-confidence-wise.”
The DWTS host admitted there came a point where her sister had to take her in hand and tell her to stop worrying about how she looked on screen.
The words of encouragement didn’t seem to make a difference. Doireann said: “But, I’m not gonna lie, I felt a massive pressure to be at my fittest, healthiest, most confident physically so that then I could do a good job.”
