Saoirse Monica Jackson is back on our screens, this time in a very different role.
We’re used to seeing her as the cheeky Erin in Derry Girls, but her new gig will cast her in a very different light.
Paramount+ has released the first look at it’s new TV show, The Doll Factory which stars Saoirse among the cast.
The creepy show is based in London in 1851 and follows Iris who paints dolls for a living, alongside her twin sister, Rose, but dreams of becoming an artist.
The synopsis reads: “By night, she secretly paints herself naked, honing her craft. Silas is a taxidermist who owns a shop filled with his creations. He hopes to one day find an item so unique he will be catapulted to fame.
“Louis is a painter and member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, searching for his next muse. In a city humming with anticipation for the Great Exhibition, their three worlds collide, and Iris is offered an opportunity to escape and start a new life.
“To do so, she must abandon her sister, sacrifice her reputation, and launch herself into the unknown. As Iris’ world expands, she finds herself challenging patriarchal beliefs, exploring her sexuality, and starting to experience the things she has always dreamed of. But alongside her newfound independence, a story of dark obsession begins to unfold.”
Saoirse will appear in the show but her role has been kept under wraps.
She isn’t the only Irish person attached to the show, as Normal People’s Éanna Hardwicke has a starring role as taxidermist Silas.
Esmé Creed-Miles plays Iris and Mirren Mack plays her twin sister Rose.
The series also stars Pippa Haywood (Magpie Murders), Sharlene Whyte (Stephen), newcomer Reece Kenwyne-Mpudzi, Freddy Carter (Shadow and Bone), Laurie Kynaston (The Sandman), Jim Caesar (The Witcher), Akshay Khanna (Chloe), Aysha Kala (The Undeclared War) and Nell Hudson (Outlander).
The Doll Factory airs on Paramount+ later this year.
