Davy Russell is a proud Cork man.
So proud in fact that despite doing Dancing with the Stars in Dublin, he continues to commute from the Rebel County.
But it’s not something he’s too worried about.
“My kids have a couple of ponies and they’re very young. I wouldn’t ride them on their own. They’re like sports cars and they need a bit of handling! I’m just happier doing it myself,” he tells VIP Magazine about the real reason behind his decision to stay in Cork.
“The driving, itself, doesn’t bother me because I’m so used to it. I actually quite enjoy it. It fills my day from start to finish. So when I’m done I just go to sleep. When I have a really quiet day I find it hard to fill the space.”
As for his routine with training, he simply says: “There are days when I’m only in the studio for an hour and then there’s a lot of time off, I’m not as comfortable with that. I’m quite happy to drive home, do an evening’s work, get up the next morning, do a morning’s work and then drive up to do a session. Usually, I’d stay over up here and then go home after doing a morning session. So it’s trying to fit everything in.”
Of course, his competitive side comes out now as he tells us: “With the ponies, we have Spring Tours coming up and it’s very competitive. I want to be competitive with them! I’m happy to do it!”
We can’t wait to see him on the dancefloor on Sunday night!
Dancing with the Stars continues on Sunday night on RTÉ One at 6:30pm
