It really is a family affair in the O’Carroll household.

Of course, the family stars in Mrs Brown’s Boys but working together doesn’t mean that they’re sick of each other.

No, in fact, Danny O’Carroll gets teary eyed as he expresses how much he loves his dad, Brendan.

He tells VIP Magazine all about his Dedicated Dance Week pick, where he and his partner Salome Chachua will be dancing for Brendan dressed as Buster and Mrs Brown! (Yes, it’s safe to say we’re very excited!)

“I didn’t know it was going to be an emotional week. When they told me it was Dedicated Dance Week I knew that I wanted to pick my dad. When you love somebody so much and you’ve told them so many times, you find new ways to express it,” he explains.

“Getting to dedicate this dance to him, you don’t get to do that ever. It is quite a special thing to do. You want to nail it for him. When we did VTs, they started asking me questions and I’m not going to lie, you get a lump in your throat. You’re doing everything not to cry!”

Danny gets emotional as he shares the moment he told his dad that he would be dancing for him.

“I phoned my dad yesterday to tell him I was dedicating the dance to him, and I’m even getting emotional now! So he was very happy and he cried. Then they asked me to tell dad why I was doing it for him and I just cried. It’s that type of emotion, it’s very emotional. I don’t even know how other guys are doing, but I know this is far too much for me! I’m bawling like a baby in mine!”

It’ll be more emotional for Danny as he is a father himself to two sons- 18-year-old Jamie and Blake, 14. He joked that they originally didn’t want him taking part and “making a show of [him]self”.

But now they’re cheering him on every week.

“My kids are so proud of me. So that makes me want to go further. I can’t express how proud my family are of me. I’m shocking them all. I never danced before and I’m shocking them with my progression every week. So it’s lovely, I want to do better for my family. I’ll try to do my best this week.”

Dancing with the Stars continues on RTÉ One on Sunday at 6:30pm.
