Comedian Kevin McGahern announced as IFTA Awards host

Kevin McGahern has been annouced as this year’s host of the Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) Awards.

The comedian, actor and presenter was previously the host of RTÉ’s Republic of Telly for 10 seasons and has starred in shows such as Smother, Hardy Bucks, Video Nasty, The Bright Side, Bridget & Eamon, Nowhere Fast, The Dry and The Last Duel – to name but a few.

Making him the perfect man for the job!

Speaking about his new role Kevin said: “It’s a huge honour to be asked to host the IFTAs this year.

“It’s been another amazing year for Irish Film and Drama, both here and around the globe and I look forward to celebrating those achievements on the night and to having some fun too – what incredible talent and skill that this small island is capable of.”

As a talented actor, writer and popular comedian, there’s no doubt that Kevin will be at home amongst this creative community of actors, filmmakers and craftspeople, renowned for its Irish camaraderie.

Meanwhile, a list of IFTA guest presenters and international guests for this year’s awards show will be announced later in February.

The 22nd annual IFTA awards ceremony is set to take place on Friday, 14 February at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre.

Kneecap

It’s no surprise that Kneecap are leading the nominations, with 17 in total for their film that has received critical acclaim across the globe.

Other big films include Cillian Murphy’s Small Things Like These which received nine nominations, Kathleen Is Here which got seven, and Spilt Milk and the Donald Trump biopic, The Apprentice, both with four.

As for the television categories, Say Nothing secured 10 nominations for the 2025 IFTAs, Bad Sisters with eight while The Dry and Bodkin received seven each.

We can’t wait to see who takes home what!
