Over the last few months, we’ve heard a lot about Cillian Murphy’s new film, Oppenheimer.
Now we finally have our first glimpse at the Christopher Nolan period piece.
The highly anticipated film follows the father of the atomic bomb J. Robert Oppenheimer, with the first trailer introducing us to the troubled character.
“We imagine a future, and our imaginings horrify us,” he can be heard saying in the voiceover.
“They won’t fear it until they understand it. And they won’t understand it until they’ve used it,” he continues over shots of the bomb being built play.
The two-minute trailer aired ahead of Avatar: The Way of Water in cinemas in America over the weekend and was released online Sunday for those of us not in the States.
“I don’t know if we can be trusted with such a weapon, but I have no choice. Is anyone ever going to tell the truth about what’s happening here?” Cillian asks in the ominous trailer that is sure to have us at the edge of our seats.
Kenneth Branagh, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Jack Quaid, Josh Peck and more make up the star-studded cast of the project.
The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin.
Oppenheimer hits cinemas on July 21, 2023
