Cathy Kelly is one of Ireland’s most beloved and iconic authors.
Last year, she announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
In December she “rang the bell” as she confirmed that she had finished chemotherapy.
We sat down with Cathy as she chats about her recovery, her new book and why is she “grateful”.
Speaking in our March issue, she admits: “I am good, though tired. But I’m full of gratitude which sounds weird because it’s been a rough journey since being diagnosed last July.
“You don’t really use the word ‘cure’ for cancer but I’m going to be hopefully free of cancer soon and that is just completely amazing. It makes you appreciate everything, though it is a hard way to learn a lesson!
“So, despite my eyes watering all the time because I’m on a special immunotherapy drug and having weird itchy skin…I’m here! And that is just joyous.”
Sisterhood by Cathy Kelly, published by Harper Collins, is out now.
