Bressie has been nominated for an Outstanding Young Person of the World Award, due to the work he’s done for mental health awareness.
The Blizzards frontman is being nominated by JCI, a non profit group of young people who dedicate their time to making a positive impact on local and global communities.
Bressie has won himself a spot on their top 20 people under the age of 40 list, and will hopefully nab himself a spot in the top 10.
The JCI website describes the 35-year-old as “a retired rugby professional, inter-county football player, multi-platinum selling songwriter and music producer.” They continue, “Niall Breslin has spent years in the public eye masking personal mental health issues.
“Despite facing adversity, he soon realised that his greatest struggle stemmed from concealing his illness from others. Rooted in his personal experiences, Breslin began a blog to highlight, advocate and campaign for mental health awareness.
“The blog’s success moved him to develop and co-found the movement, A Lust for Life. The movement’s ideology views life holistically, connecting mental health, physical health and the soul. It offers a platform for individuals to connect and share their personal stories of how they navigated their way through difficult periods in their life.
“To further his impact in creating awareness, in 2015, he published the award-winning book titled Me and My Mate Jeffrey, which openly depicts his life with both depression and anxiety, and also illustrates his crippling journey to finally acknowledging his growing mental health issues.”
Overwhelmed by this honour, Bressie took to social media to express his delight. “Blown away to be in this group of people. If fancy it please throw a vote my way,” he wrote.
The award ceremony takes place this November in Canada, and should the singer be lucky enough to make it into the top ten he will be in attendance.
Congratulations Bressie!
