Should we be saying goodbye to bottom lash mascara?
Well that’s the million dollar question!

The people of TikTok have been in an ongoing battle about whether we should keep applying mascara to our bottom lashes or bin it all together – we’ve all had to redo our makeup after a bottom lash smudge on more than one occasion, so it would at least save some time.
Bottom lash mascara is a makeup trend mostly associated with the ’60s, and was used to achieve an eye-opening effect. With various vintage beauty trends making a return recently, it’s difficult to know if bottom lash mascara is a fad we should leave in the past, or if it’s a step we should be incorporating into our everyday makeup routine.
Honestly, unless you’re committed to that sixties vibe then we wonder why we put ourselves through the stress of it…it’s a recipe for disaster!
One TikTok user, katiehub.org says that by only applying mascara to her top lashes, her eyes look more lifted.
The spider-like effect may have you looking a bit like a Tim Burton character…but if that’s the look you’re going for…

The real turn off? Smudging! There is absolutely no need to accentuate our dark circles any more than we have to. It’s normal for us busy girlies to have bags under our eyes, but why on earth would we want to enhance them by using bottom lash mascara?
There’s nothing worse than coming home after a long day’s work and realising that your mascara has transferred onto the skin beneath your eyes. It gives us the makeup fear!
One user took to Reddit to find out for themselves why so many people seem to neglect their lower lashes when applying mascara.
One responded by saying “Smearing. Smudging. Not worth it! Unless it’s for a special event.”.
Another argued that “There are no universal rules to eye makeup other than to wear what you like! To me mascara on my lower lashes looks very outdated. Plus, I have allergies, so it smudges”.
I suppose the answer all boils down to preference and what it is you strive to achieve with your makeup look… everyone is different and that’s okay!
If it is a risk you’re willing to take then, be prepared for the nightmares it might cause, or else be sure that your mascara is 100% everything proof. Sorted.
