Aoibhin Garrihy has updated fans on her husband John Burke’s Everest expedition.
The former Fair City actress recently returned from a trip to India, where she travelled to Everest Base Camp with her other half. Aoibhin parted ways with John as he continued on the trail to climb to the top of Everest.
Although John is an experienced climber, Aoibhin’s admitted that she’s worried about his safety as he takes on one of the world’s toughest challenges.
Speaking to Irish Country Magazine Aoibhin said: “Everest is something John has been talking about for seven years, so I need to be there for him with that.
“It’s not a case of: ‘Bye, see you when you get back,’ I mean he might not come back.”
But, luckily for Aoibhin, John has been sending her updates as often as he can – and all seems to be going well so far.
Aoibhin took to Instagram today to share a snap of her hubby and a fellow climber and alongside it she wrote a detailed update.
“Latest update on @johnjohnburke #everest2017 expedition…Today the team reached Camp 3 (7200m) and have returned back to Camp 2 tonight.” she wrote.
“Tomorrow he will return to Base Camp to recover and prepare for the summit. The route has been fixed to Camp 4 and will soon be fixed to the summit (weather dependent).
“All the team are strong and healthy and we hope to hear from John tomorrow at some stage. For now, great to get word from @ascenthimalayas all is well…especially today when one of the world’s mountaineering legends has tragically lost his life on the mountain…RIP @uelisteck.”
Best of luck with the remainder of your journey, John!
