Irish actress Saoirse Ronan has scooped yet another prestigious award for her role in 1950’s drama Brooklyn – increasing her chances of being nominated for an Oscar.
The 21-year-old was awarded with Best Actress at the New York Film Critics Awards last night for her part in the film based on Colm Toibin’s novel.
Saoirse has already won a host of other gongs this year for playing Eilis Lacey, a small town girl who moves to New York to better her life, including the Hollywood Film Awards, and she has also been nominated for a Golden Globe.
Her fans now wait with bated breath for Thursday January 14, when this year’s Oscar nominations will be announced. Saoirse was previously nominated for an Academy Award for Atonement in 2008.
Meanwhile, the young star has made Forbes 30 Under 30 list. In its profile of Saoirse, the magazine says she “has set critics fluttering with Brooklyn, which many expect will earn her a second Oscar nomination”.
