Angela Scanlon has been making a name for herself over the years on screen.

However, that doesn’t mean that it’s been an easy journey for the presenter.

She recalled her time as a host on the Robot Wars reboot from 2016 to 2018 alongside fellow Irish star Dara O’Briain.

Speaking on Tiffanie Darke’s podcast, Fashion as a Force for Good, she spoke about the nasty comment she heard about herself during her time on the show.

She chatted about one of the producers who she told the host that she already suspected had “ideas that were quite traditional” and viewed her as the “glamour” on the show.

Angela then went on to say that she later received a call from a friend, who said that this same producer had called Angela the “tits and teeth” of Robot Wars.

Understandably, Angela shared that she was “absolutely furious” when she heard this.

“I think in his mind I was the glamour, which was just never a role that I felt. I had a sense at the time time but I though ‘Maybe I am just being paranoid.’,” she explained.

“The next meeting I had with this person, there was a conversation less around the content – which in my mind was my job – and more around what are you thinking you’ll wear? I was like, ‘That’s not important.’

“It felt so reductive and so presumptuous that I would have arrived with my lippie on and my legs out to entertain the lads, and that was my value. Absolutely not.”

Well, Angela certainly had the last laugh.

She hosts the interior design show Your Home Made Perfect on BBC Two, and is the only woman in Ireland and the UK to have her own Saturday night chat show with Ask Me Anything on RTÉ One.
