Did you stay up to watch the Oscars?

We don’t blame you if you didn’t! It’s on fairly late.

But the good news is that we had some Irish winners on the night!

Of course, everyone knows that Jessie Buckley was the favourite to pick up the Best Actress Award after she had a clean sweep in every other award ceremony this year.

So it was no surprise when her name was called out, making her the first Irish woman to win Best Actress.

She was up against Rose Byrne, Emma Stone, Kate Hudson, and Renate Reinsve in her category.

Accepting the award for Best Actress, Jessie said: “I would like to dedicate this to the beautiful chaos of a mother’s heart. We all come from a lineage of women who continued to create against all odds.

“Thank you for recognising me in this role. This is the greatest honour. I can’t even believe it.”

But Jessie wasn’t the only Irish winner on the night.

Dubliner Richard Baneham picked up his third Academy Award for his work on the visual effects of Avatar: Fire and Ash on Sunday night.

He has been working with director James Cameron for decades now and has picked up all three of his Oscars for his work on the Avatar franchise.

Accepting the award, he said: “First and foremost, thank you to our families. There’s 2,200 artists. This is a massive, massive collaboration on the VFX side.

“We also overlap with everybody on the movie, so to all our families, this is everything. Truly, truly everything.”

Unfortunately, our third hopeful, Retirement Plan, was beaten out in the Best Short Animated Film category by stop-motion animation The Girl Who Cried Pearls.

But what a night!
