Following his devastating defeat at the Olympics yesterday, Michael Conlan has revealed that the support of his family will help him move on from the controversial situation.
Michael lost to Russian boxer, Vladimir Nikitin at the quarter finals yesterday. The judges unanimously decided that Vladimir was the winner, however Michael – and a lot of people who viewed the fight – didn’t agree with their choice.
Straight after the fight, the Irish sports star told RTE, “AIBA cheats, he f***ing cheats. That’s me, I’ll never box for AIBA again. That’s the end of my olympic gold. My dream has been shattered now.”
Michael then took to social media shortly afterwards, sharing a picture of himself, his partner and his daughter, and said,” When the dust settles, the only thing we have that matters is family. Thanks for the amazing support today everyone!”
Meanwhile, Bressie has also voiced his frustrations at yesterday’s match.
He said, “Forgetting my bias for Conlan, I am just sick of the rampant corruption in sport. Athletes put life on line and greed destroys it.
“Looking back at body language of judges, that decision was as obvious as fart in mass from round one, and stinks like it too.”
