Alan Hughes has recalled his own experience of a stalker following the news of Holly Willoughby’s alleged kidnap and murder plot earlier this week.
Holly later announced that she was quitting This Morning after 14 years.
Now, Alan has revealed how he once had to call gardaí because of a stalker calling to his home.
Speaking to the Irish Mirror, the Ireland AM presenter said: “I had a stalker who came to my house and knocked on my door.

“We had to get the police and everything. Years ago. Literally knocked on my door, he was in a mental hospital,”
“Those things can happen,” he continued.
“We had to get the police up to the station because he was mentioning other presenters and knew where they lived.
The Virgin Media star then mentioned how his stalker claimed to have previously met him, which was untrue, before sharing how things quickly escalated from there.
“He found out where I lived and knocked on my door one night and I opened the door. I was able to say to him, I was on my own in the house, I just said there’s somebody here and I just closed the door.
“I remember then it got quite serious and the police were involved and brought him to the station,” he added.
The presenter then shared his support for Holly following her departure from This Morning.
“I think there comes a stage where your family and your life have to take preference over everything.”
