Al Porter has spoken out, following allegations made by Colm Hayes stating that he discovered the star.
In an interview with The Sun on Sunday former 2FM presenter Colm claimed that when he found the 23-year-old comedian he was “pulling bingo balls in a nursery home,” and he was now waiting for Al to return the favour.
The Tallaght native has fought back at these claims, stating to the Irish Sun that he feels it would be bizarre to have the 55-year-old on his Today FM show, but appreciates all that he did for him.
“I love Colm but I can’t have him on the radio show because it would be too weird — like inviting your dad to join your football team. I certainly wasn’t picking bingo balls when Colm found me.”
“Colm convinced Dan Healy at 2FM to put me on the radio but there was no money so Colm paid me. He insisted Al Porter should be on RTE.”
Al also joked that the only way to find out who the real winner of the airwaves is would be for Colm to have a show with the same air time!
“I think what Colm would like is his own radio show, at the same time as mine. That way we could compete and find out who is the real radio star,” he said.
