Met Eireann upgrade weather warning to status orange in some parts of the Country

They initially issued yellow weather warnings on Wednesday

Met Eireann has issued more weather warnings for Ireland following a yellow warning on Wednesday.

Now, two status orange weather warnings have been put in place for some parts of the country.

A status yellow wind warning remains for the entire country, with particularly strong winds in the south and west.

The newly issued caution will affect Galway, Mayo, Wexford, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford.

This alert also includes a risk of flooding in some parts.

It was reported earlier this week that Storm Brian is set to hit Ireland over the weekend, particularly Friday and Saturday.

On Wednesday two status yellow warnings have were announced for the weekend.

One yellow weather warning was issued for tomorrow (Thursday) for various parts of the country.

The statement said: “Rainfall warning for Munster, Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow and Meath.

“Heavy rain is expected with accumulations 30 and 50mm possible.”

A weather advisory for Ireland was also issued today which will be valid between 6pm on October 20th and midnight on October 21st.

“An Atlantic depression is expected to track eastwards over parts of Ireland on Saturday. South to southeasterly winds on Friday night will veer northwesterly on Saturday and are expected to reach weather warning criteria, at this stage.

“There is potential for mean wind speeds of 50 to 60km/h and gusts of 90 to 110km/h, especially in coastal counties.”

Conditions are expected to improve on Sunday with less strong wind, and scattered showers.
