Celebrity Big Brother star Jeremy McConnell was on The Today Show on RTE yesterday speaking to Maura and Daithi. He revealed to the presenters the details of the tragic losses he experienced at a young age, and how they shaped his life.
“When I was 15 there were a few tragic deaths within my family, in the space of a year and a half,” he explained. “I lost my mum, brother and sister in that short space of time.” He explained to Maura and Daithi how difficult this time was for him, especially when his mum passed away as she raised him in Bray after his parents separated when he was young.
Jeremy was very open with the RTE presenters when they asked him about the details of the deaths of his mother, brother and half sister- although he did say that speaking about the sad time is often hard for him. This time of year is particularly tough, as Mother’s Day approaches.
“My mother had a brain aneurism. She was asleep on the couch and I went to my cousins, when I came back she was gone. It was that quick.”
Within the next 15 months Jeremy lost his brother in a motor bike accident, and his half sister passed away of a heart attack. Although this tragedy is undoubtably heartbreaking, Jeremy says that these experiences are part of him and shaped him into who he is today.
Meanhwhile, Jeremy also commented on his whirlwind romance with fellow Celebrity Big Brother star Stephanie Davis, and he insisted that it was not a “showmance”.
“I love the girl to bits, you don’t break up with someone that is going through something, and you stay together and work,” he said.
He also denied cheating claims, saying that the two were in a difficult situation after leaving the house and both were single to do what they wanted, “She had a boyfriend, we were going to talk about it when she got out and that is the honest truth.”
