Mrs Brown’s Boys actor Brendan O’Carroll will be honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the IFTA’s next Thursday, and according to the star, “it’s fabulous.”

The Finglas native was delighted to hear that the show itself was nominated for an award a couple of weeks ago, but this latest honouring has come as a complete surprise.

Speaking to the Irish Times, Brendan said, “I don’t feel I’ve had a lifetime yet, unless they’ve seen some medical report I’m not aware of, but it’s fabulous.”

He added, “It’s a cliché, but whatever about being a hit in England and South Africa and Canada and New Zealand and Australia, you want to be recognised at home.”

And recognised he certainly is!

According to IFTA CEO, Aine Moriarty, “Brendan O’Carroll is being honoured for his outstanding achievement in comedy and his incredible contribution, influence and leadership in the craft.”

“Comedy has always been at the heart of O’Carroll’s passion, writing and performance for the past three decades and he is widely considered an original comic voice and a pioneer of his craft,” she said.

The Irish Film and Television awards will be shown on TV3 on October 23rd.
