John Connors has revealed that he has gone from being pro-choice to pro-life.

The actor took to social media to plead with people to vote No in the upcoming abortion referendum, taking place on Friday.

“Was once pro-choice. Now pro-life. Realised I just followed a line of politics I thought I had to. Every time I said I was pro-choice I got a pain in the stomach,” he began a statement on Twitter.

“I fear baby genocide will be legalised Friday. Please Ireland, show your compassion. Show the world our humanity. Ireland’s record on Children’s rights has been disgusting.

“The 8th acknowledges the unborn baby’s right to live. A mother can already have an abortion if her life is in danger or she is suicidal. The unborn baby is the most vulnerable being alive. Please do not ignore the facts. Ignore the Tyrants like Varadker, Coveney and Martin. Vote No.”

He captioned the note below: “Vote no.

The actor, who is a vocal traveller right’s activist, got a mixed reaction in the comments.

Many hit out at the Irishman, criticising him for bringing party politics into the debate.

“Why bring politicians into this? This is about health care for women. Don’t bring us backwards. What about rape? What about FFA? Why can you not trust us? Nobody *wants* an abortion. Some women need one,” one Twitter user said.

“Its misleading to say that the Yes campaign is run by FG/FF – in fact it’s the result of grassroots action by ordinary people sick of women dying unnecessarily and girls taking the lonely trip to England,” another added.

“This isn’t about Coveney, Varadkar etc. It’s about the women of Ireland. So disappointed by this…” another Twitter user said.

Others commended John on his honesty,

“Fair play John. Admirable to see you have the courage of your convictions despite the inevitable onslaught of people chastising you for having an opinion,” one person said.

Another added: “Fair play John. I completely disagree but it’s your vote and your choice.”

Many other celebrities have spoken out about their thoughts on the upcoming referendum in recent weeks.
