Irish actor to lead Game of Thrones spin-off

Game of Thrones is no stranger to an Irish face!

From Liam Cunningham to Michelle Fairley, there has been plenty of Irish actors in the series.

But it was still great to hear that a new Game of Thrones spin-off will be led by an Irish actor!

However, sports fans may be more used to seeing him on the rugby field than on the silver screen.

Peter Claffey represented Ireland in the 2016 Six Nations and played for Ireland in the U20s team.

However, he decided to follow his dreams in acting and clearly, it’s working out for him.

The 27-year-old has appeared in Bad Sisters as well as Vikings: Valhalla.

He will now appear as one of the main characters in the upcoming Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.

Announcing the news he will play Ser Duncan the Tall in the Sky Atlantic series, he wrote on Instagram: “Truly Honoured and still in disbelief really, to be chosen to bring Ser Duncan the tall from the page to the screen.

“I’ve been an intense fan from the “Red wedding” to “Battle of the Bastards” and I’ve now fallen in love with A Knight of the seven kindgoms and Dunk the Lunk himself.

“I’ll do everything I can to do justice to Dunk. It’s actually indescribable to get the chance to enter George R.R. Martin’s incredible world and I wanna thank everyone at HBO and Lucy and Emily at @lucybevancasting for putting their faith in me for this.”

He went on to say: “I also wanna thank Ami, Morris and Lisa herself at the @lisarichardsagency for not just this, but everything the last two years. ‘Oak and Iron, guard me well, or else I’m dead, and doomed to hell.’.”

According to the HBO website, the series synopsis reads: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, there was Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg.”

It looks like we’ll get the series sometime in 2025!
