Caroline Morahan has opened up about the birth of her second child, revealing that she didn’t even realise she was in labour until she was quite far gone! Speaking on The Six O’Clock Show this week she shared that she was over her due date, but that she was trying everything to avoid being induced at the hospital.

“I had organised to have acupuncture the day after I was due because with the American model they’re super keen to induce at the drop of a hat. I was like, ‘This is going to happen on its own time’.”

It seems her ‘natural method’ of trying acupuncture to get everything started worked as she shared; “I went in and I had had a little bit of a contraction that day but by the time I had left the acupuncturist, I was in full-blown labour.”

Chatting with Una Healy and Kamal Ibrahim on the show she added that it was actually her husband who suggested that perhaps the slight twinges she was feeling, was actually labour.

Laughing she said; “I remember that I was sitting on the yoga ball and we were watching Bake Off which was our happy place for the entire Covid.”

He said to her; “You’re overdue, you’re nine months pregnant, you’re sitting on a yoga ball contracting. Do you not think that maybe…”

By the time the couple reached the hospital Caroline shared that she was already nine and a half centimetres dilated and it wasn’t long before they welcomed their second child into the world.

Continuing, Caroline said this ended up being the best case scenario as with Covid precautions being tight at the time, her husband wouldn’t have been allowed in with her for hours. She said; “They wouldn’t let your partner in till you were fully dilated so I’m comfortable at home.”

“Had it been my first baby, it would have been a lot more nerve-wracking and of course, I would have wanted to be in the hospital immediately.”

The Drogheda native also shared how being in lockdown wasn’t too bad for her once her little one arrived; “I’ve been particularly lucky throughout this whole period. First of all, I had a beautiful new baby when Covid struck. It was the perfect time to be at home in my little nest, doing all of that and my mom happened to be visiting for a two or three-week visit.”
