Great news for Red Rock today, as the soap has aired in the UK for the first time ever.
Two of the show’s leading cast members, Cathy Belton and Sean Mahon, flew to London today for the British launch.
Speaking to The Herald Cathy said, “It’s really exciting and a very proud day. It’s exciting to think millions of viewers are going to be introduced to Red Rock.”
“The reviews have been amazing. I think it’s going to do good. It’s quite different, it’s not just a police show, it’s a family saga as well.”
It was revealed in March that the rights of the show were sold to the BBC for €500,000, but the start date had been kept quiet- until now!
TV3 Group Managing Director, Pat Kiely, spoke of his joy at the tv series being picked up by the BBC, calling Red Rock “one of Ireland’s most successful television exports.”
“This is a huge day for TV3, a huge day for Red Rock, and a huge credit to the production team and the cast behind Red Rock, that the BBC has chosen Red Rock as a key part of its daytime summer schedule,” he said.
Red Rock airs weekdays on BBC One at 1:45pm.
