Irish actress Saoirse Ronan has revealed to that she’s not into internet dating- preferring to search for romance in real life. Rather than use apps such as Tinder, she said it’s more common for actors to find romance on set. In fact, the 21-year-old previously dated her ‘How I Live Now’ co-star George MacKay in 2013.
Dismissing the idea of signing up to the popular dating app, Saoirse admitted she’s not currently signed up, although she agrees that “technology plays such a big part in relationships, social media and such.”
She added: “I don’t know if it’s a good thing or not. I’ve had a different kind of introduction to dating since it’s been with people I’ve known well already.”
“I have to say, it’s more common for an actor to get in relationships with others you work with because you’re friends with them or get to know them [during filming].”
“So the dating thing, I’m not as well up on,” she said.
The Oscar nominee also admitted that she’s never been on a blind date. “I’ve never done the whole, ‘Hey stranger, I’ve never met you before, let’s talk to each other for the next two hours’,” she said.
Saoirse is currently on the promo tour for her new film Brooklyn, which is based on the book of the same name by Colm Toibin.
The film, directed by John Crowley, tells the story of a young woman named Eilis (Saoirse) who moves from a rural town in Ireland to the bright lights of Brooklyn as she tries to follow her dreams. It also stars Domhnall Gleeson, Emory Cohen, Julie Waters and Jim Broadbent.
It recently emerged that Saoirse will be jetting into Dublin and Enniscorthy for two Irish premieres of her new film, described by Variety as “rich in history and full of emotion”.
