Brendan O’Connor has revealed the reason why he won’t be sporting a ‘Repeal the 8th’ jumper.
The chat show host will be reprising his role as presenter of The Cutting Edge on RTÉ One next week. When speaking about his role on the show, the columnist said that his job is to represent the absent opinions on the panel and not to let his own beliefs get in the way of leading a balanced discussion.
“I’m not going to be wearing a ‘Repeal the 8th’ t-shirt on there (the show) or anything.” he told TV Now magazine.
“I am the presenter and this is public service broadcasting – Bill Hughes the producer said to me that my job is to be the voice of those who aren’t at the table at any one time. If people are laying into one situation I guess my job is to provide a contrary view to that.
“I think I’m able to set any prejudices I have aside. You get used to it after doing five years of a chat show where you have to sit there smiling and suck up to people saying stuff that you want to smack in the face.”
Catch The Cutting Edge’s highly anticipated return Wednesday 19th October, 9.35pm on RTÉ One.
