The programme had become a staple in many households as we bid to keep up to date on the latest news.
The question has been left: who will take up the mantle?
Katie Hannon is set to present a brand new current affairs show on RTÉ in the new year.
Who Is Katie Hannon?
Katie Hannon is a radio, broadcast and print journalist with extensive experience in reporting current affairs.
The established journalist presented RTÉ Radio 1’s Late Debate and Saturday with Katie Hannon as well as regularly standing in as presenter of Liveline since 2018.
She also reported for RTÉ Prime Time for over 14 years prior to this.
What Will The Programme Deal With?
In the weekly programme, Katie will deal with the biggest stories and faces in the news that will have a direct impact on the public.
There will be a live studio audience each week, as well as a wider social audience, where the public can directly engage with the programme live on air.
The show will be on the road from time to time too, taping episodes in various locations around the country.
Katie will be communicating with her audience through social platforms during the week to ensure she answers the most pressing questions for her audience.
When Will The Show Air?
The new series, Upfront with Katie Hannon will begin in January 2023.
The programme is set to air weekly on Monday nights from 10.35pm.
Speaking about her new role, Katie said: “I’ve had the privilege of telling people’s stories in print, on television and on radio over many years now. But I have long believed that the most powerful journalism is where people are allowed to tell their own stories.
“This is about creating a platform where this can happen and where those whose decisions impact on all of our lives are asked to listen; to account for themselves and persuade us that they deserve our trust and support. It will be a place everyone will be given the space to have their say. I can’t wait.”
