Here’s what’s on in Irish cinemas this week

Get the popcorn ready! Finally the cinema is making it’s return and we have missed it very much.

The experience of going to the cinema will never be taken for granted again, the smell of the popcorn, the choosing of the seats, being immersed in a big screen event for 2+ hours with no phones, what a treat!

If you are dying to get back to the cinema and are wondering what you can go see this week, we’ve got you covered. Here are some of the biggest films coming your way.

Cruella

This new live action film from Disney is available on Disney + but if you’d rather make an event of it and see it on the big screen, it will also be playing in the cinema! It stars Emma Stone as Cruella de Vil in an origin story of the much loved villain.

This looks amazing we can’t wait to watch.

A Quiet Place Part 2

This sequel to the succsessful thriller was due for release in 2020 but was pushed back due to the pandemic. The film starring Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski follows the Abbot family once again as they try to survive a terrifying world where creatures hunt humans by sound.

Sounds like the perfect immersive cinematic experience, if you’re into a little thrill!

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

For anyone who loves a scare the newest The Conjuring movie is out.

The third film in the series will no doubt be as freaky as the first two as the paranormal investigators explore a murder case in which demonic possession is involved…

Yep, we’ll be sleeping with the lights on after that one.

Peter Rabbit 2

On to something more light-hearted Peter Rabbit 2 is now in cinemas. Following the cheeky bunny rabbit as he runs away from home in search of a place where he won’t be too much trouble. Starring James Corden as Peter this film looks like a lot of fun for the whole family.

Godzilla vs Kong

Stranger Thing’s actress Millie Bobby Brown stars in this epic battle movie between two legendary creatures which is sure to be the blockbuster you’ve been waiting for. Kong is called in to help the humans as Godzilla emerges for a war, If you’re into action, sci-fi and great special effects you’ll love this one.

Nomadland

The winner of Best Picture at the 2021 Oscars, we will finally get to see the highly acclaimed film. The film follows a woman in her sixties (played by Frances McDormand) who decides to embark on a journey in her van living as a modern day nomad after losing everything in a recession.

This is high on our list!

Nobody

This action thriller is released on June 8th and follows Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) an overlooked father and husband, regarded as a ‘nobody’, after a thief breaks into his house a series of events leads Hutch to save his family forcing him to discover a range of skills he never knew he had. With gunfire and danger throughout, this is set to be action packed.

Well that’s a good start, right? We have plenty more must see movies we can’t wait for later this year (Black Widow in July and West Side Story in December to name a few) it will definitely be a year for the cinema!
