What to watch this April

Whether you’re going to staying in on a Friday night and want something to binge or you want to go out to the cinema, there is plenty to sink your teeth into this month.

Set 15 years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, the series follows young teens Agnes, dutiful and pious, and Daisy, a new arrival and convert from beyond Gilead’s borders.

As they navigate the gilded halls of Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives, a place where obedience is instilled brutally and always with divine justification, their bond becomes the catalyst that will upend their past, their present, and their future.

This dramatic coming-of-age story finds a new generation of young women in Gilead grappling with the bleak future that awaits them.

You, Me & Tuscany

Anna has abandoned her dreams of becoming a chef and is now drifting through her twenties with a series of bad choices. Marriage gets hilariously complicated in The Miniature Wife, when Elizabeth Banks is unexpectedly shrunk in a technological mishap, much to the surprise of her husband, played by Matthew Macfadyen.

Domestic life takes a turn for the perfectly mismatched pair, as their day-to-day turns into a razor-sharp battle for power.

Oh the kids are going to love this one!

Alongside companions new and old, the brothers travel across the stars to stop the young heir’s crusade.

Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair

Almost 20 years after the end of the original series, Malcolm now lives a happy life with his daughter Leah and girlfriend Tristan, having distanced himself from his birth family.

He is forced to bring them into the family’s chaos when his parents Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.

Mother Mary

Mother Mary is an upcoming psychological drama-thriller starring Anne Hathaway.

The film follows the psychosexual affair between pop singer Mary and fashion designer Sam after the former’s need for a dress for her new tour draws them back together.

Oh and did we mention it features original songs provided by Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX!

In cinemas April 24th

Euphoria

Zendaya, Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney reunite for the third season of Euphoria, the show that put Jacob and Syndey on the map.

This time they’re out of high school and living life as young adults.

A group of childhood friends wrestle with the virtue of faith, the possibility of redemption, and the problem of evil.

HBO Max, April 13th

Outcome

Reef Hawk, played by Keanu Reeves, is an actor who has been sober for five years. He has taken a break from acting to build his new home, and he takes pride in his progress in life.

However, when he receives a call from his crisis lawyer Ira Slitz, who reveals that someone is blackmailing him with a video of questionable content, his life is turned upside-down.

Reef then sets out to make amends with those whom he has wronged in the past in order to figure out who the blackmailer is.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles

Margo, a young mother, finds herself struggling to make ends meet.

When her estranged father offers help, she starts an OnlyFans account using his advice from pro wrestling. Though successful, she wonders if internet fame comes at too high cost.

The series stars Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicole Kidman and Nick Offerman.

Michael

The highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic is finally here.

The film follows Michael Jackson’s life, from his time with the Jackson 5 to his early solo career, covering eras of Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), and Bad (1987).

Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, will take on the titular role.

Beef

Beef returns with a new cast and a new “beef,” as a Gen-Z couple witnesses an alarming fight between their Millennial boss and his wife.

Newly-engaged Ashley Miller and Austin Davis, both lower-level staff at a country club, become entangled in the unravelling marriage of their General Manager, Joshua Martín and his wife, Lindsay Crane-Martín.

Through favours and coercion, both couples vie for the approval of the elitist club’s billionaire owner, Chairwoman Park, who struggles to manage her own scandal involving her second husband, Doctor Kim.

Running Point

Isla Gordon is no longer the surprise choice to lead the Los Angeles Waves, she’s the one everyone is watching. With the franchise finally rebounding after last year’s scandal, Isla is determined to prove she’s not just keeping the seat warm for her brother Cam.

What she doesn’t know is that Cam is quietly manoeuvring behind the scenes to reclaim his post, turning every misstep into ammunition. As she tries to balance the pressure of running a franchise with devoting time to her personal life, every decision on and off the court counts.

To survive the family power plays and the scrutiny of the board, she’ll have to rip up last season’s game plan and come up with a whole new playbook if she wants to close out the season on top.
